I say this because the recurring comment is, “wow, you guys actually teach at parties and your products are so much better.” And it amazes me every time I hear this because I take for granted what is normal for me is not what others do. But I am very pleased because this means I am doing a good job.

I truly believe that my job as a sex toy consultant is not just selling these goodies, but to enlighten women about the benefits of having a healthy and fulfilling sex life. And I do this by offering all my knowledge at these parties. To shy away from so called taboo subjects means that I am not doing my job to educate those who seek information. Everyday is an opportunity to learn new facts or even sex tips.

Hmmm yummy edibles

At a typical sex toy party or bridal shower, I start with the edibles, body dust, and massage oils. Each guest can then taste and feel the difference in flavors and textures. Our best seller, the Kama Sutra Oils of Love is a water-based liquid which heats up when you blow and lick. It won’t break down latex condoms but it is still recommended to wash off before getting in contact with the vagina during penetration.

I never realize how hard striptease and burlesque can be. Those girls you see who flawlessly shimmy and shake their booty on stage have likely practiced until their arms and legs get tired. I know that my first Striptease & Burlesque 101 class on Monday was NOT what I expected.

Sure I can dance at the clubs pretty much all night. But learning how to do the “S” movement with your arms without moving your bottom half is not as easy as it looks. Or rotating your hip without the rest of the body following suit, was the hardest thing I had to do with my body. Never mind, it was the push ups that did me in LOL.

Velma CandyAss (dance instructor) has a different way of teaching traditional Burlesque and modern striptease. She likes to warm up with push ups, leg squats and lunges. Um, weren’t we suppose to learn striptease? Yes, this is to help prepare for those movements that require body strength. I guess it makes sense, but of course I can’t help but complain about those 5 push ups. (I know, that’s it?)

The first class also involved using props like the boa and we even got to walk in heels like a hooker. But in a good sense. The look at me walk … but in our case you can’t touch.

Normally I am quite out-going and friendly, but coming to class I noticed how shy and self-conscious I was about myself. It took a moment to get over that feeling of, “I don’t want to look silly in front of these ladies” But then I realize, most of these women probably felt the same way. So I sucked it up and just concentrated on having fun. And what fun it was.

I can’t wait for the next class where we bring in props and sexy heels to practice in. Hmmm, now what is in my closet?
